Stephen Vitiello

The idea of sound art is very intersting to me. I like how Stephen Vitiello combines the ideas of still art and sound as motion. His work seems as though it moves. It is intriging how he places speakers in positions to create sound. Although he uses sounds in his installation from other speakers in the space, I think it is just as interesting not to use sound at all. His placement of speakers in many of the installations create a sense of sound that was not there before. It feels like art that makes its own tune without having to employ audable sounds.

My favorite piece that he showed the other night are his specker drawings. I thought it was interesting that the he kept having to use new speakers because the used ones were deteriorating from the materials. In this piece alone the sound is evident without hearing anything. The slight difference in the speaker drawings display a strong sense of what sound is and what sound feels like.
